About 250 miles west of Mitchell is one of the neatest places I've ever visited. The Badlands!Badlands National Park is a cornucopia for the senses. There are things to see, hear, touch, and sniff (just ask Annie). There's no way I could describe the night sky here. We were fortunate to be able to actually camp in the campground that's a part of the park. Once the sun goes down and the stars come out - WOW!!!
It's not much, but the view is GREAT!
You have to eat, right?
The park’s 244,000 acres protect an expanse of mixed-grass prairie where bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets live today.
These striking geologic deposits contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the rhino, horse, and saber-toothed cat once roamed here. There have been fossils found this year by people just hiking! We looked, but to Abi's disappointment we didn't find any.
must come down...even if they're scared!
Swallow's nests
Cactus blooming
Fossils being readied in the Preparation Lab.
No visit to the area would be complete without a visit to the "Famous Wall Drug".
